Excerpt from 'ON A WING AND A PRAYER'

Motorcycle Meditation 8

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)

Even though we have this promise of a plan for our future, we are also expected to put certain plans into place for ourselves - for example life and travel insurance. We are not excused from making life decisions. We get to choose our occupations, our life partners, our holidays and our retreats. We can choose how much time we want to spend in prayer, how much money we give to charities, and what organizations we wish to join. We can choose to have an attitude of gratitude and to greet each day with hope.

Bikers have a variety of ways they plan for the future. They may be saving up for a new bike or to convert to a trike. They will have goals of places they would like to see. Planning rides is a major task for a motorcycle club. Various tools are used such as a computer program called 'Streets and Trips', and a good GPS. One memorable trip took our club to a rally in Nashville, Tennessee, and from there into North Carolina to ride the "Tail of the Dragon" - a bucket list ride for many in the club! The scripture refers to plans to prosper you, and I know how many of us have prospered from the plans made for some wonderful trips. When you finish one great trip you can hardly wait for another one to take place.

But for all of us, the final journey will be to join our Heavenly Father and Jesus. What is in our future? None of us knows how long our life will be. So it is important that we accept Jesus as our Saviour now and attempt to live as his disciples with all our faults and shortcomings. I believe that He would want us to "seize the day", to make the most of every day it is given to us to live!

Prayer: God, I know that You have a plan for all creation. I sometimes struggle to understand Your plan for my life. Yet I am willing to let Your ultimate will be done just as Jesus was willing to let Your will be done as he hung on a cross.

"Gary thought he had retired. Maybe he is doing his best work now..."
